Microscopically small fluorescent particles, so-called taggants, that are mixed in lacquer, ink, paste, glue, in a solution, or embedded in glass or enamel, are referred to as LUMI-TAG®. Lacquers that are mixed with LUMI-TAG® (LUMI-TAG®lacquer) for example can be used to mark metal sheets or wood products. Ink mixed with LUMI-TAG® (LUMI-TAG®ink) primarily is used to mark labels, and also to mark metals. For offset printing LUMI-TAG® is mixed with a paste (LUMI-TAG®paste). LUMI-TAG® in pure form (LUMI-TAG®pure) for example can be mixed in glass, enamel, or an anodising bath.

LUMI-TAG®pure are markers in powdered form that are available as a 100% concentrate. LUMI-TAG®pure predominantly is used for mixing in glass, ceramics, enamel, aluminium or in an anodising material. For our customers we also can produce individual compositions that consist of several markers. Depending on the application the admixtures usually are from the sub-ppm range up to a concentration in the end product in the per-mille range. | |
LUMI-TAG®ink primarily is used for ink-jet printers, where the LUMI-TAG markers are mixed with the ink solution in a defined concentration. They can then for example be used to print labels, but also to print on metals and plastics. Individually adapted inks also can be produced on customer request. | |
LUMI-TAG®lacquer is the term for special lacquers that can be used to coat or mark components made of metal, plastic, wood or textiles. Individual lacquers also can be produced on request. | |
LUMI-TAG®paste is designed for applications in offset printing, where it is mixed as a paste in the respective color that should be marked. "Customised" pastes are available on request. | |
LUMI-TAG®solvent is the term for various solvents that are intended to be mixed with diverse liquids. Customer-specific solvents are available on request. |
The various types of taggants that are available are described in more detail below:
UV-A excitable taggants
(UV-A is the upper UV range from approx. 310nm to 380nm)
In this case the fluorescent particles are excited by UV-A light (365nm average wavelength), which is referred to as primary emission. This results in a secondary emission in the visible wavelength range (approx. 400nm to 700nm). The colour of the taggants that can be observed due to secondary emission depends on their doping. Typical secondary emission centers lie in the blue, green, yellow, orange and red wavelength range.
Phosphorescent (afterglowing) particles, so-called luminophores, are a special type of taggants. After the end of primary emission (supply of light) these markers show an exponential fading of secondary emission. The speed of phosphorescence fading differs depending on the type of marker (determined by way of the time constant Tau that is characteristic for the respective e-function).
